For Incoming Students

Undergraduate Admissions has created a resource for new students: Virtual support for your transition to Carleton University. Please refer back to this page for future updates.

We have included the relevant information for CoMS students below:

CU 1001 Program: Helping you transition to university life

You can sign up for the CU 1001 Program, a free online bundled mini course experience that provides new students with a focused introduction to the Carleton community and prepares you for your journey as a future Raven. We highly encourage all incoming students to actively participate as the first step in their transition.

Academic Support Services: Set yourself up for success!

The Centre for Student Academic Support provides a series of free learning and writing workshops and one-on-one consultation sessions. You can get further academic support by joining the Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) program.

Orientation

CoMS students are part of the Faculty of Public Affairs (FPA).

FPA is hosting Welcome to FPA – Peer-to-Peer Connections, a week-long series of events that focuses on the transition to a university environment. This initiative will include specific sessions dedicated to each of FPA’s units.

The Communication and Media Studies session is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, 11:15 am – noon. Register Here.

All sessions will be led by upper-year FPA Ambassadors. The focus will be the first-year experience, strategies for a successful first term, and the balance between academics and university life. We strongly encourage you to take part.
