An adjunct research professor since 2001, Peter Calamai worked for more than four decades in Canadian daily newspapers, as a news correspondent at home and overseas with the Southam newspapers and as editorial page editor of The Ottawa Citizen. From 1998 to 2008 he was the national science reporter for The Toronto Star. He now is a communications consultant, freelance writer and editor based in Ottawa.
Calamai held the Max Bell Chair in Journalism at University of Regina in 1985-1986 and was a visiting Associate Professor of Journalism at Carleton in 1997-1998. He is a three times winner of the National Newspaper Award for spot news reporting and feature writing.
He was graduated from McMaster University in 1965 with a B.Sc. in Physics. In 2012 he received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his work in adult literacy.
