As a current M.A. student in Communication and Media Studies at Carleton University, my research interests derive from the past studying experience in China. I was fascinated with theories on Marxism and consumerism. At Carleton, I developed a different understanding of Marxist theories, especially, how does the political economy of communication (PEC) can be applied to the analysis of media and capitalism. In the context of recent Chinese social media and online commercial entities, companies like WeChat and Taobao have exerted enormous impact and on social contact, and formed a special digitally networked economy, and that interest me.
