An Ontarian, turned Newfoundlander, soon to be turned Ontarian again, Ian enters the Master of Journalism program having worked as a storyteller in several mediums, including as a theatre director, writer, and documentary filmmaker. Most recently, he has been working as the Digital Projects Manager with Wonderbolt Productions in St. John’s, NL, where he is helping them to re-imagine their annual St. John’s International CircusFest as a digital gathering, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. For this project, Ian has helped the Wonderbolt team to identify ways to foster a highly personal and interactive digital experience, which will allow festival participants around the world to take part in shaping the story of the festival together. This has included designing an interactive online platform, and creating content that helps the festival to retain a strong sense of place.
Ian has previously served as the Artistic Director of the Shakespeare by the Sea Festival in St. John’s. His adaptations of Richard III and Henry V are published as part of the Playing with Plays series, a collection of classics adapted to be performed by youth.
Ian is looking forward to returning to his hometown of Ottawa, and telling stories in a journalistic setting.
