Laurie Mackenzie is a print journalist with experience writing, editing and designing for community and daily newspapers as well as magazines. Following her Master of Journalism at Carleton University, she broadened her writing to include communications work for the non-profit sector.
Laurie’s journalism career started in her hometown of Montreal, where she completed the journalism program at Concordia University. Weeks before graduation, she landed her first job as Chief Reporter at a community newspaper in Montreal. Eventually she moved to Toronto to take up a post at The Toronto Sun and then leapt to women’s magazines.
Her time at ELLE Canada and Canadian Living, where she was a Senior Editor, inspired her interest in service journalism and led her to the Master of Journalism at Carleton, where she was able to take a step back from the practice of service journalism to consider how it is produced and consumed within women’s magazines.
