When MUST it be crossed?<\/p>\n<p>Join Carol Off, award-winning correspondent, writer and host, as she delivers the 19<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Kesterton Lecture.<\/p>\n<p>This latest in the Journalism program\u2019s signature lecture series will be moderated by veteran journalist Joyce Napier, Ottawa Bureau chief for CTV National News.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">**************************************************<\/h2>\n<h4>About Carol Off<\/h4>\n<p>With extensive experience in both Canadian and international current affairs, Carol Off has covered conflicts in the Middle East, Haiti, the Balkans and the sub-continent, as well as events in the former Soviet Union, Europe, Asia, the United States and Canada. She reported the fallout from the 9\/11 disasters with news features and documentaries from New York, Washington, London, Cairo and Afghanistan. She has covered Canadian military missions around the world including its latest combat operation in Kandahar.<\/p>\n<p>Off has won numerous awards for television and radio work, among them: a Gemini; two gold medals from the New York Festival of Television; a selected screening at the Monte Carlo Television Festival; several awards and citations from the Columbia Television awards; a Gabriel award; a B&#8217;nai Brith Award and number of awards and citation from the National Radio and Television Association.<\/p>\n<p>Her fourth and latest book <em>All We Leave Behind: A Reporter&#8217;s Journey into the Lives of Others<\/em> won the British Columbia National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction, and was a finalist for the 2017 Governor General\u2019s Award for Non-fiction and the 2017 Hilary Weston Writers\u2019 Trust Prize for Nonfiction. Previous books include <em>The Lion, The Fox and The Eagle: A Story of Generals and Justice in Rwanda and Yugoslavia<\/em>; <em>The Ghosts of Medak Pocket: The Story of Canada\u2019s Secret War; Bitter Chocolate<\/em>: <em>Investigating the Dark Side of the World\u2019s Most Seductive Sweet<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h4>About Joyce Napier<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-8071 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/sjc\/wp-content\/uploads\/image.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"197\" height=\"262\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Globe and Mail, The Canadian Press, La Presse, CBC \u2013 Joyce Napier worked for a number of news organizations in Montr\u00e9al before joining Radio-Canada in 1992. She was named Radio-Canada\u2019s Middle East Correspondent in 1998. While in the Middle East, Napier covered the second Intifada, the Israeli pullout from south Lebanon, and the death of Syrian President Hafez Al Assad.<\/p>\n<p>In 2003, she moved to the U.S. and was subsequently named Washington Bureau Chief for Radio-Canada, a position she held until 2014. She covered the U.S. Military base in Guantanamo Bay, the consequences of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, and the Newtown massacre. In 2008, Napier stood across from the stage in Chicago\u2019s Grant Park, reporting live as Barack Obama accepted the presidency of the U.S., a highlight during her post.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2015 she returned to Canada after 17 years abroad.
