She is internationally recognized for her artistic work at the intersections of alternative criminology, visual studies, and queer studies\u2014in both Anglo North America and Latin America. She has co-curated exhibitions at Tate Britain, Museo Jumex, and Ford Foundation Gallery. After a Fulbright stay at Columbia University, she joined Carleton University as a professor in Communication and Media Studies. Her work has been featured in <em>Photographers Gallery, Luna Cornea<\/em>, <em>Frieze, I-D, Vice, El Pa\u00eds, CBS Inside Edition, Radio Canada, BBC, Musee Magazine.<\/em> She has been invited to present her work at the New Museum (NYC), Museo Universitario de Arte Contempor\u00e1neo (MX), Museo Jumex (MX), Beursschouwburg (BE), amongst others. She is the author of the book <em>The Little Old Lady Killer: The Sensationalized Crimes of Mexico\u2019s First Female Serial Killer<\/em> (NYU Press, 2019) made into a Netflix Documentary, <em>Mujercitos<\/em> (Editorial RM, 2015) and <em>Service Top:<\/em> <em>Bad Bunny, mirando la\u2019 estrella\u2019 sin telescopio<\/em> (Gato Negro, 2023). She is currently working on two major projects: a manuscript on <em>Alarma! Photography of violence<\/em> and affects and her first documentary feature film: <em>El Bautizo de la Chilaquil<\/em>, the untold story of female (homo)sexuality in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Her research has been supported by the Faculty of Public Affairs (Carleton), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, Fulbright Fellowship, Fonds Quebecois de Recherche sur la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 et la Culture, Art History and Communication Studies (McGill) and the Universidad Nacional Aut\u00f3noma de Mexico (UNAM, MX).
