Her home academic unit is Carleton’s School of Social Work.<\/p>\n<p>Before going into social work, <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/lerrn\/2019\/nimo-bokore-brings-her-knowledge-and-lived-experience-to-lerrn\/\">Dr. Bokore was a journalist in Ethiopia.<\/a> After covering the Ethiopian-Somali war she fled the country on the heels of government persecution. She and her family relocated first to Somalia and then Italy before arriving in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bokore’s lived experience shaped her post-secondary studies (BSW, Ryerson University; MSW, University of Toronto; Neuroscience Graduate Diploma, York University; PhD, York University) as well as her interest in topics related to the following: mental health and health, resettlement\/integration barriers and finding new ways for individuals, family or community healing.<\/p>\n<p>She has an education, research and practice background in: neuroscience and social work; migration and resettlement; forced migration, refugees, trauma and transference; equity and higher education; poverty and social policy.<\/p>\n<p>She received the 2014 Hilary M.
