graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, USA, with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. During the year after he graduated, he wrote articles for non-profit organization New Circles Community Services based on testimonial interviews they conducted with individuals who found life and career success after participating in the organization\u2019s programs. In his senior year at Drake, he wrote a feature for the award-winning biannual student publication Drake Mag about healthy and unhealthy expressions of masculinity. In his sophomore year, he interned for Iowa-based non-profit Above + Beyond Cancer, where he wrote a blog post summarizing findings from an analysis of data of the resting heart rates of participants in a guided meditation program, finding that meditation appears positively correlated with the mental health of cancer survivors, with regard to their condition.<\/p>\n<p>His parents are Protestant Christian pastors, which rendered discussion of the classic existential questions commonplace in his household. While he is no longer personally religiously affiliated, this upbringing nonetheless\u00a0contributed positively to his interest in philosophy, where he found that no question was off limits. In a unique time of social and political turmoil, he finds many of his questions and concerns pertain now to immediate, urgent worldly affairs, local and global. All of this has led him to a keen interest in the discipline of journalism.
