Alumni Memory: Louise Rachlis, BJ ’68<\/h2>\n

How the times have changed<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

When I graduated from Journalism at Carleton in 1968, I had a scrapbook full of clippings, took the train to Toronto and was sure I\u2019d get a job in a couple of weeks, which of course I did.<\/p>\n

Unlike now, jobs were bountiful.<\/p>\n

The other big difference of course is the technology, the speed, the social media that didn\u2019t exist then.<\/p>\n

My time at Carleton was defined by typewriters, and reams of beige copy paper.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t until the 1980s that I went from typewriter to computer, from waxing galleys to desktop publishing, from snail mail to internet, email, and all the rest.<\/p>\n

My articles from that time are in crumbly scrapbooks with peeling Scotch tape. My painstakingly typed document for Journalism 350 on \u201cContemporary Canadian Humor\u201d is hand signed \u201cRead and appraised 6 April 1968 WHK.\u201d –\u00a0Louise Rachlis\u00a0(BJ ’68)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
