It was founded in 2016 by Merlyna Lim, Canada Research Chair in Digital Media and Global Network Society and a faculty member of Communication and Media Studies program. ALiGN Media Lab was established with the support from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovation.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canada for Innovation Foundation<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovation.ca\/awards\/john-r-evans-leaders-fund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John R.
