Veteran journalists from the Toronto Star, Maclean\u2019s, CBC, Radio-Canada and the Ottawa Citizen as well as a communications strategist with more than two decades experience have joined the journalism program\u2019s team of contract instructors for the coming academic year. The part-time contract instructors, many of whom continue to work with major media organizations, bring fresh perspectives straight from the workplace and complement the efforts of our 18 full-time faculty members.<\/p>\n

Six new contract instructors are joining a team of more than two dozen for the 2020-21 academic year:<\/p>\n

Amy Dempsey <\/strong>is an award-winning journalist at the Toronto Star, where she has worked since 2010. She has been recognized for her investigative feature writing and in-depth stories about the criminalization of mental illness. She will be co-teaching our JOUR5200 Introduction to Reporting course for first-year Master of Journalism students.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

John Geddes <\/strong>is an editor-at-large at Maclean\u2019s, where he was previously Ottawa bureau chief, and has written extensively for the magazine on politics and art. John also held the Martin Wise Goodman Canadian Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University. He will be teaching JOUR5700, the print journalism seminar for second-year MJ students.<\/p>\n

Adrian Harewood <\/strong>is co-host of CBC News Ottawa. He has been a guest host on national CBC programs such as As it Happens, Sounds Like Canada and The Current. Before coming to television, Adrian was the host of All In A Day on CBC Radio One in Ottawa. This fall he is designing and launching an important new course, JOUR5508 Journalism, Race & Diversity. In the winter term he\u2019ll be teaching our capstone course for all of the fourth-year Bachelor of Journalism students, JOUR4001, Journalism Now and Next. Adrian is also a member of the program\u2019s Permanent Working Group on Anti-Racism and Inclusion. \u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Jean-Sebastien Marier <\/strong>is a researcher, journalist, and producer, working mainly with CBC\/Radio-Canada. He is currently a multiplatform producer for ICI Ottawa-Gatineau\u2019s web team. He will be teaching in the Bachelor of Media Production and Design program delivering MPAD 2003, Introductory Data Storytelling.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Shaamini Yogaretnam<\/strong> is the police and crime reporter at the Ottawa Citizen, where she has worked since 2012. She reports on daily news, enterprise stories and investigations. In her reporting she covers on the ground policing, police bureaucracy and also chronicles crime in our city. She will join the team teaching our JOUR2201 Fundamentals of Reporting course for second-year BJ students.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Joan Wright<\/strong> is a seasoned communications strategist. Her professional mantra is, \u201cPeople and Partnerships \u2013 PR the Wright Way!\u201d She has more than 25 years of work experience in such places as London, England, George Town, Cayman Islands, New York and Ottawa. In the winter term she\u2019ll be teaching JOUR4401, Strategic Communications.<\/p>\n
