The popular Data Day 7.1<\/a> event was held online with 500+ participants and hosted by the Faculty of Science. This year, Faculty of Public Affairs Dean Brenda O’Neill<\/a> introduced Prof. Tracey Lauriault who hosted a Fireside Chat with Jan Kestle<\/a> the President and Founder of Environics Analytics<\/a> and Andre Loranger<\/a>, Statistics Canada\u2019s Chief Data Officer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sixteen Communication Graduate Students entered the Poster Contest from the 2020 and 2021 COMS5225 Critical Data Studies classes and one student submitted a poster as part of the Tracing-COVID-19 Project<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The following are the three Poster Contest winners for 2021.<\/p>\n

First Place – Anna-Lena Theus, <\/strong>PhD student, on the topic of smart lighting, Privacy by Design in public spaces a case study of the City of Yellowknife Infrastructure Canada Smart City Challenge.<\/p>\n

Tied for Second place are:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cora Hansen, <\/strong>for her research on how open data and citizen science can be mobilized to produce and disseminate building accessibly information to make the City open for all and her case study was Doors Open Ottawa!<\/p>\n

Donato Leone, <\/strong>for his work on how the Infrastructure Canada Smart City Challenge might consider in their calls a requirement for the governance of First Nation, Metis, and Inuit data in smart city projects. His case study was the First Nation Information Governance OCAP Principles<\/a>.<\/p>\n
