<\/p>\nShe has earned numerous honours in the last few years, and now BJ Ana\u00efs Voski has done it again, winning Carleton University\u2019s 2016 Provost Scholar Award.<\/p>\n
The annual award provides $1,000 each to a maximum of ten undergraduate students who excel in research, community engagement, immersive learning or internationalization.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Voski, an accomplished Bachelor of Journalism student who completed her BJ combined honours in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations this spring, was acclaimed for her achievements in the internationalization category.<\/p>\n
“I’m incredibly\u00a0honoured and\u00a0grateful to receive this award,\u201d she said. \u201cI would like to thank the judges, and also thank the School of Journalism and supporting professors\u00a0for their nomination.”<\/p>\n
Voski was nominated by three faculty members. Susan Harada, the Associate Director of the School of Journalism and Communication, singled out Voski\u2019s involvement in the Carleton student chapter of Reporters Without Borders, the International Press Forum and the Model United Nations.<\/p>\n
\u201cHer extracurricular and professional activities speak to her fundamental belief in the importance of global citizenship and our shared responsibility for strengthening this world,\u201d Harada noted.<\/p>\n
Achim Hurrelmann, the director of the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies, also endorsed Voski, who was his research assistant for the Jean Monnet Chair “Democracy in the European Union.”<\/p>\n

\u201cShe combined the inquisitive personality and strong communication skills found in the best journalism students with a passionate interest in understanding the details and complexities of international political issues,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to journalism professor Andrew Cohen, the third of her faculty nominees, Voski was a \u201cdream\u201d student \u2013 \u201ccurious, intelligent and conscientious, deeply committed to making an impact at home and abroad through community engagement, academic research and advocacy journalism.\u201d One of her class assignments, a story about the effects of climate change on global security, was published by the Ottawa Citizen.<\/em><\/p>\n Voski is the third Journalism student to be honoured with a Provost Scholar Award since its inception a year ago.
