Canadians across the country will soon have a chance to see the results of the Journalism program’s 2015 Video Documentary course.<\/p>\n

CBC\u2019s Absolutely Ottawa<\/em>\u00a0will broadcast two short documentaries produced by Master of Journalism students.<\/p>\n

Course instructor Christopher Redmond points out that getting the docs picked up by the public broadcaster is no small feat. “For first-time filmmakers, this class really knocked it out of the park,” he says. “Not only are two of the three films already licensed by the CBC, but the third one made during the class is being considered for a future program in an extended form.” To his knowledge, it’s the first time all the docs created in the course have garnered such interest.<\/p>\n

\"Choux's“Seized” tells the story of\u00a0Brett Simister, who has struggled for almost thirty years with uncontrollable seizures. At 42, his fight for independence and normalcy could be made possible by a rare, last-resort surgery. His story was produced by Veronica Green, Nicole Rutherford, Karen Henderson and Evelyn Harford.<\/p>\n

\"Recruited\"“Recruited” follows Patrice Dagenais as he trains for Team Canada, while managing and coaching the local club where he got his start. His task of recruiting new players, however, is complicated; most people must endure a life-altering injury to be eligible for the roster. Matthew Allen, Kelly Hobson, Eddy Ameh, Deanne Pittman and Jesse Winter tell his story.<\/p>\n

The documentaries will air on Absolutely Ottawa<\/em>\u00a0on Saturday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m. They’ll also be available to\u00a0view online<\/a>\u00a0shortly after their initial broadcast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
