Think of anorexia or bulimia, and the image of an emaciated teenaged girl instantly comes to mind. But eating disorders also afflict more than 120,000 Canadian men, and millions more worldwide, experts say.<\/p>\n

Even though eating disorders can have mortality rates as high as 15 per cent, many men suffer in silence, undiagnosed or undertreated in a medical system that often ignores the problem, advocates told Micaal Ahmed when he explored the issue in his In-depth Reporting course. In a story recently published by Ottawa Life<\/em> magazine, he traces how lack of awareness, funding and social support are leaving men with eating disorders out in the cold.<\/p>\n
