Karim H. Karim has co-edited\u00a0Diaspora and Media in Europe:\u00a0Migration, Identity, and Integration<\/i><\/a>, published by Palgrave Macmillan. It builds on his critically acclaimed The Media of Diaspora<\/i>\u00a0(Routledge, 2003), which has long been a standard international reference on the topic.<\/p>\n

Diaspora and Media in Europe<\/i>\u00a0examines how African, Asian, Middle Eastern and Latin American diasporas use media to communicate among themselves and to integrate into European countries.\u00a0Whereas migrant communities continue employing print and broadcasting technologies,\u00a0the rapidly growing applications of Internet platforms like social media have substantially\u00a0enriched their interactions. These communication practices provide valuable insights\u00a0into how diasporas define themselves.<\/p>\n

The anthology investigates varied uses of media by Ecuadorian, Congolese, Moroccan, Nepalese, Portugal, Somali, Syrian and Turkish\u00a0communities residing in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and\u00a0the UK. These studies are based on research methodologies including big data analysis,\u00a0content analysis, focus groups, interviews, surveys and visual framing, and they make a\u00a0strong contribution to the emerging theory of diasporic media.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
