Don Myles and Dr. Eva Karchava recently appeared as plenary speakers at November’s TESL Conference in Ottawa.

Their talk explored the impact of task repetition, self-assessment, and teacher feedback on the fluency and accuracy of EAP learners’ oral presentations. Beyond simply describing EAP speaking classes, their presentation included results of research based on an activity using student/instructor interviews, analysis of the students ’ reflections and plans, and independent grading of the participating students. They also presented new ways to utilize smartphones and cuPortfolio in the EAP classroom.
