The importance of teaching vocabulary learning strategies

Dr. Stuart Webb
Western University

In this talk, I will explain why an important part of a language teacher’s job is to help students to successfully use strategies to effectively and efficiently learn words, and describe the strategies that are most useful for current and future vocabulary learning. Research directions relating to vocabulary learning strategies will also be discussed.

Dr. Stuart Webb is a Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Western Ontario. Before teaching applied linguistics, he taught English as a foreign language in Japan and China for many years. His research interests include vocabulary, second language acquisition, and extensive reading, listening, and viewing.
