SLaLS specializes in teaching English as a Second Language.
The ESLA Foundation Program offers credit Academic English as a Second Language courses to students, degree and Special students, who have been admitted to Carleton with an English as a Second Language Requirement (ESLR). These courses allow the students the opportunity to begin their degree studies while at the same time develop their academic English and study skills. Students are able to register in some degree program courses while completing their ESLR.
In collaboration with Carleton’s Global Academy, we offer the non-credit programs of the English Language Learning and Teaching Initiative (ELLTI). These include:
- an intensive program for university students and professionals
- specialized programs for international English teachers and other professions
- a summer program in English and Cross Cultural Communication
Please note: Students admitted to the University with an English as a Second Language Requirement (ESLR) must register and complete Credit ESLA courses. The ELLTI program CANNOT be used to satisfy the ESLR.
