Join the Department of Sociology and Anthropology for the 2nd Fac-Chat* of 2020-21.
How do conspiracy theories emerge to capture the cultural imaginations of large publics and what are their broader social consequences? On the eve of the United States elections, panelists from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology will explore the history of conspiracy theories and how the growth of popularity in conspiracies like #pizzagate, Q-Anon, climate change denial, and anti-maskers relates to the political age of Trumpism. Audience members will be able to join in on the speculation and discussion as well.
