She received a JD from New England Law|Boston with a specialization in immigration law, and an MA in Pan African Studies from Syracuse University. She has participated in social justice initiatives such as refugee resettlement; transitional justice and human rights; educational development; anti-racist practices; and immigration law through legal aid organizations. Carieta\u2019s current PhD research connects her immigration law background with the sociology of care work.
