At Statistics Canada, he held positions of Chief, Demographic Characteristics Section and Senior Research Advisor, Demography Division. Dr. Ram was President of Research Committee on Sociology of Population, International Sociological Association during 2003-2006 and President of the Federation of Canadian Demographers during 1999-2002.&nbsp; He studied demography at International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai, India during 1966-68. He obtained his M.A. in sociology from the University of Western Ontario in 1971 and Ph.D. in sociology from the Ohio State University in 1975. He has taught a number of courses at Carleton, including Sociological Methodology, Research Design and Data Analysis\/Social Statistics and Population Studies.
