\n Sociology PhD graduate Eloy Rivas-Sanchez hired as Assistant Professor of Sociology at Athabasca University\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Sociology PhD graduate and Adjunct Research Professor Eloy Rivas-Sanchez<\/a> was recently hired as an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Athabasca University<\/a>. At Athabasca University, Professor Rivas-Sanchez will be developing, coordinating and teaching sociological courses mixing critical sociological theory, Indigenous, anti-colonial epistemologies, and anti-racist perspectives from Latin America and Turtle Island. He will be teaching a course on theories of social change, and coordinating courses on Canadian society, the sociology of information and technology, and the sociology of crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Rivas-Sanchez will also be conducting an Athabasca University-funded ethnographic research project on \u201cCare, Renewal and Resurgence for the Post-Pandemic Future: Learning from the Migrant Justice Movements in Canada,\u201d will continue collaborating with researchers from the Laborat\u00f3rio de Estudos Pan amaz\u00f4nicos da Universidade Federal do Amazonas, in Brazil, the UNESCO Chair on Democracy, Global Citizenship and Transformative Education, and working with the SSHRC-funded research node \u201cSocio Ecologies\/Economies of Migration,\u201d which he recently founded, in collaboration with Latino migration scholars from Canada and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Rivas-Sanchez will continue as Adjunct Research Professor at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton University, and will be happy to keep serving in students\u2019 Honours Research Essays, Thesis, and Dissertations as reader, second reader, or co-supervisor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
