Steve Ulrich is Director of the Spacecraft Robotics and Control Laboratory and Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University. He received his B.Eng. (2004) and M.A.Sc. (2006) in electrical engineering from the Universit\u00e9 de Sherbrooke, and his Ph.D. in aerospace engineering (2012) from Carleton University. In 2007, he completed the International Space University\u2019s Space Studies Program at the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. From 2006 to 2008, he was Spacecraft GN&C Research Engineer with NGC Aerospace Ltd, where he led the development of an innovative attitude perturbation estimation system for the European Space Agency\u2019s PROBA-2 spacecraft. In 2013, he was Postdoctoral Associate with the Space Systems Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he namely contributed to the development and experimental validation of vision-based relative navigation and control systems aboard the International Space Station during expeditions 34 and 35.<\/p>\n
He is the recipient of the Senate Medal for Outstanding Achievement at the doctoral level for his research in adaptive control for flexible-joint space robotic manipulators at Carleton University. He has also been recognized with several other awards and distinctions, including the Leornardo Da Vinci Medal from the Universit\u00e9 de Sherbrooke, the E.Y. and J.W Research Award in Mechanical\/Aerospace Engineering from Carleton University,\u00a0and a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council. He is a member of AIAA, IEEE, the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute, and a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario.
