Formerly known as the Interdenominational Chaplaincy at Carleton University back in the 1960s, then as the Carleton Ecumenical Chaplaincy, and later as the Interfaith Chaplaincy. We have grown and developed over the years to reflect the changing culture of Ottawa and Canada as a whole.
Now known as the Carleton University Spirituality Centre, we aim to incorporate the respectfully inclusive and welcoming nature of the space that we provide for all people, regardless of faith affiliation. We are excited to be part of the vibrant and diverse campus and city where we recognize, respect, and value the unique worth of every individual.
Meaningfully exploring and cultivating together the spiritual wellbeing and identity of everyone in the Carleton community as each person treads through their personal journey, one step at a time.
Fostering an inclusive, supporting, and joyful pluralistic coexistence in the Carleton community among different faiths and philosophies through collaboration and a spirit of teamwork.
Nurturing healthy spiritual development in individuals of the Carleton community while enriching and supporting them through quality educational, spiritual and counselling services.
All seekers of the Centre are welcomed, honored, and assisted.
Inspired at first by the harmonious synchrony of two cherry blossoms, various metaphorical elements from various traditions were infused into our logo. Cherry blossoms bring about a rejuvenating natural beauty of new beginnings and revival that carries with it lessons for us to value and be present during each moment of life. This then allows us to find inspiration and tranquility as we tread through our journey of life with harmony between our mind, heart, body, and spirit.
As an intertwined ribbon design that points to the clear light area within it, it serves as a metaphor for the space that we provide at the Centre for the Carleton community to come together. At the same time, the clear light area within the design is radiating outwards, which metaphorically represents the positive outreach and impact that the Centre, as well as every individual, is capable of emanating from within themselves.
The rich colour of the design incorporates the university’s social fabric with the spectrum of red that weaves towards the centre to showcase the diverse walks of life that are united by humanity and is coming together towards the space that the Centre provides.
Symbolizing diversity, creativity, spirituality, and life, we hope our logo will be a source of comfort and inspiration for all those who see it and reflect.
