Are you a student or student group seeking corporate support for your project, team, club or event? Perhaps you’ve already got some corporate partners in mind? Or maybe you’re just starting and need help with understanding what sponsorship and engaging corporate partners is all about? We’re here to help! University Advancement works with Carleton students to:
- review corporate partners you have identified;
- facilitate sponsorship agreements with corporate partners (where required); and
- ensure co-ordination among Carleton’s various departments with corporate partners.
Things to consider
Working with corporate partners presents an opportunity to collaborate on shared goals from different perspectives. For example, you may be looking for speakers for your event and a sponsor(s) may have employees who are willing to share their expertise and experience. Whatever the case may be, there are a variety of factors to think about when inviting corporate sponsorship. Here are some helpful tips to consider when approaching a potential sponsor:
- What impact will your initiative have?
- How does your event or activity align with the potential sponsor’s business objectives or corporate social responsibility goals? (Check the sponsor’s “About” page on their website.)
- How will sponsors be recognized? Have you developed a package of sponsor benefits (e.g., signage, social media tags, speaking roles)?
- Do you have an idea or outline of how you will spend a sponsor’s funding?
- Are you seeking an in-kind contribution or a cash sponsorship? What value of sponsorship are you seeking?
Important!
University Advancement must approve all lists of sponsorship prospects and proposals for in-kind and cash sponsorships, no matter the value that you seek.
