In June 2017 Dr. Sobia Hafeez graduated from SPPA’s Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Program Evaluation (DPE). This coincided with her second graduation as a FINP Intern from IRCC’s Federal Internship for Newcomers Program (FINP). As part of the DPE program, she undertook an evaluation of an NRCAN project that was accepted at the PPX 2017 Symposium and presented as part of the Science-based Community of Practice session. Sobia feels that the DPE program was a great experience that served as a stepping-stone, introducing her to the Federal Public Service. In 2016 she worked as a performance measurement officer at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). She also had the privilege to be the first DPE student to participate with the MPPA students in the 2016 SPPA Case Competition.
Currently, Sobia is working as a policy analyst at the Office of Grants and Contributions at Health Canada. Supporting the Strategic Policy Branch as a performance measurement officer with evaluation experience, she is effectively utilizing the skills and expertise she acquired during the DPE program. Having worked as a physician abroad for over a decade, and with a master’s degree in public health from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Sobia brings extensive experience in the health from both low and high-income countries. She has managed various non-profits and served successfully as director and treasurer on finance, fundraising, grievance mediation and board amalgamation committees. She is currently serving on the board for the Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH) and hopes to use her expertise in developing future sustainability strategies and evaluation approaches for an evolving global health system.
