Every year we welcome a new group of students to campus. Energized and excited for the term ahead, they bring new ideas, experiences and perspectives to the School. They also represent our future colleagues, as in just two short years they will join our extensive and vibrant alumni network here in Ottawa, across Canada, and beyond.
To immediately connect these new students with their future community, the School hosted an alumni reception with the support of Carleton’s Alumni Services. New students got to meet those who came before them, from recent cohorts to some of the earliest cohorts to have graduated from the School and even Carleton.
The new students were also welcomed by Dean André Plourde and they received words of wisdom from Matt Jones, Assistant Deputy Minister of the Pan-Canadian Framework Implementation Office, Environment and Climate Change Canada, who is also an alumnus of the School (MAPA ’01). Matt spoke about his own career trajectory, the opportunities he has had in government and the sometimes unexpected ways in which opportunities arose.
We look forward to inviting alumni back again next year to once again kick off the year and offer a little encouragement and inspiration for the new students in the hard work ahead.
