New research by SPPA PhD in Public Policy student Antoine Genest-Gregoire and colleagues from Université de Sherbrooke looks at what Canadians know, and ignore, about taxes. Close to 3000 Canadians took a short quiz about the taxation of different sources of income as well as the progressivity of income tax. Success rates were average at best, particularly regarding progressivity. Understanding of taxation matters for tax compliance, the effectiveness of social policy as well as public opinion about taxes and redistribution.
