Global energy transition will involve a significant decline in demand for products that play an important role in Canada's economy, such as oil and gas and traditional vehicles. This seminar will provide an overview of global energy transition scenarios and what they could mean for Canadian exports, GDP, employment, and regional and local economies. It will also explore actions that governments could take to better position Canada to succeed through global market change.



Rachel Samson is the Vice President of Research at the Institute for Research on Public Policy (IRPP). Previous to her current role, she was Clean Growth Research Director at the Canadian Climate Institute where she led the development of the report  Sink or Swim: Transforming Canada’s Economy for a Global Low-carbon Future. Rachel also spent 15 years as an economist and executive with the federal government, and five years as a consultant working with clients such as the Organisations for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on green growth, climate change and biodiversity policy research.
