\n Music Scholarship for Indigenous, Black and Racialized Students\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

Terms and Eligibility
<\/strong>Awarded annually on the recommendation of the Director of the School for Studies in Arts and Culture to outstanding full-time students who are Indigenous, Black or a member of another racialized group entering or continuing in the Bachelor of Music program at Carleton University. Eligible recipients will have made a significant contribution to the Music program and\/or their Indigenous or racialized community. Application is required. Established in 2021 by the Department of Music to encourage, recognize and honour the significant contributions to music by Indigenous, Black and racialized students.
Music studies should reflect the diversity of our society. Carleton Music has long worked to teach and learn about music from around the world, and to critically examine music\u2019s social and cultural significance. We also know that postsecondary music studies remain rooted in eurocentric values that too often go unmarked, and we are complicit in this bias. Along with other forms of structural racism in our society, this bias works to create additional barriers for students from Black, Indigenous and other racialized minorities. As part of our commitment to decoloniality and anti-racism, we seek to encourage, recognize and honour the significant contributions to music by our racialized students and to better support such students in their postsecondary music studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

General Eligibility Criteria
<\/strong>Indigenous, Black or racialized students entering or continuing full-time enrolment in a Bachelor of Music degree program
\u00b7 Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (landed immigrant or protected person)
\u00b7 Meets Carleton University\u2019s scholarship eligibility requirements
\u00b7 Demonstrated contribution to the Music program at Carleton and\/or to their Indigenous or racialized community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scholarship applications and nominations are open until May 1.<\/strong>
