Participants will learn tools for effective verbal and written communication, as well as techniques for communicating during heightened emotional states through an exploration of foundational de-escalation skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"learning-outcomes\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning Outcomes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of this workshop, staff and faculty will be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Differentiate between methods of communication and their intended purpose<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply advanced active listening techniques, including the use of empathy statements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recognize different styles of written communication and how to adapt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify techniques to communicate effectively during heightened emotional states<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"what-to-expect-at-the-session\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to expect at the session<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Session length: 2 hours<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This workshop may include the following activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Periods of sitting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Listening to a facilitator<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discussion and interaction with colleagues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Viewing a multimedia presentation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton University embraces diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
