Through discussions, case studies, and self-reflection, attendees will explore how aspects of their identity \u2013 such as race, gender, sexuality, and socioeconomic background \u2013 shape their experiences, interactions, and approach to supporting students. There will be a focus on identifying and challenging microaggressions, understanding how unconscious biases perpetuate inequality, and exploring practical strategies to address and confront these harmful behaviours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"learning-outcomes\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning Outcomes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of this workshop, staff and faculty will be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Articulate at least three aspects of their own identity using vocabulary from this session<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify the different forms of oppression students can experience based on their identity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explain how implicit and unconscious biases can contribute to oppression<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recognize various forms of microaggressions and how they manifest on campus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discuss strategies to support students by addressing and challenging individuals who perpetuate biases through calling in or calling out<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Locate appropriate resources for students and staff on campus related to EDI<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"what-to-expect-at-the-session\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to expect at the session<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Session length: 2.5 hours<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This workshop may include the following activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Periods of sitting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Listening to a facilitator<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discussion and interaction with colleagues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Viewing a multimedia presentation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton University embraces diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
