He holds degrees from Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Wales (Cardiff)&nbsp;and&nbsp;Queen\u2019s University.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Williams\u2019\u00a0expertise\u00a0centres\u00a0on the relationships between place, nation and identity, and how meanings associated with places evolve. He developed the concept of \u201cplace-biography,\u201d which examines how the life history of a place contributes to changing interpretations and cultural significance. His work\u00a0frequently\u00a0focuses on heritage sites and their roles in shaping local,\u00a0regional\u00a0and national identity.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More recently,&nbsp;Williams\u2019&nbsp;research&nbsp;explores&nbsp;post-industrial landscapes, with an emphasis on documenting and recovering cultural memory.
