Many parents and guardians of Carleton students want to understand the financial workings of their student’s account; either because they will ultimately make the payments, or because they wish to help their student to make smart financial decisions; however, the\u00a0Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act<\/strong>\u00a0(FIPPA<\/a>) prohibits us from discussing details of your student’s account without their express written permission.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, we have designed this page in an effort to provide you with information about our financial policies and procedures that you may find useful.<\/p>\n

First and foremost, while we make every effort to communicate with students regarding fees and the current status of their account, the responsibility to monitor and pay their student account rests with the student. Each student is responsible to educate themselves about our\u00a0policies<\/a>,\u00a0deadlines\u00a0<\/a>and to ask\u00a0questions<\/a>\u00a0if they are unsure. Being responsible for their finances is a big step, but an important one for your student – help prepare them to make the transition!<\/p>\n

How do I obtain an invoice?<\/a><\/dt>

Carleton sends statements periodically throughout the academic year; however, the easiest method to obtain a statement of your student’s account is to have them log into\u00a0Carleton Central<\/a>\u00a0and click ‘Calculate amount to pay’ from the Student Records and Registration menu. In fact, once your student completes their registration, the next step is to calculate and pay their fees – this amount is updated automatically whenever your student makes a financial change on their account.<\/p><\/dd>

When are fees due?<\/a><\/dt>

How do I pay?<\/a><\/dt>

Carleton University offers a number of\u00a0payment options<\/a>. Please leave sufficient time for your payment to arrive ahead of our\u00a0deadlines<\/a>.<\/p><\/dd>

What if I am late?<\/a><\/dt>

Once the deadline passes,\u00a0late charges<\/a>\u00a0and\/or\u00a0interest charges<\/a>\u00a0will be applied to all unpaid amounts.<\/p><\/dd>

I have an RESP form, to whom do I send it?<\/a><\/dt>

Many parents have opened RESPs for their son\/daughters\u2019 education. In order to release the funds, these institutions require confirmation of academic standing or enrolment from the University. These forms can either be mailed or faxed to the attention of the\u00a0Registrar’s Office<\/a>.<\/p><\/dd>

How do I obtain a refund?<\/a><\/dt>

Typically, we issue refunds directly to the student in the form of a cheque. Once payment is made to your student’s account, it becomes part of their private financial information. We cannot issue refunds directly to parents\/guardians without express written permission from the student. More information regarding our refund policy can be found\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p><\/dd>
