Since 2005, Carleton University has experienced a 15% reduction in energy usage intensity (GJ/m2) on campus, despite adding approximately 127,000 square meters to its footprint. Although the total energy usage has increased, the rate of usage per building area and per occupant has decreased, showcasing improved energy efficiency. Furthermore, in 2021, a Co-Generation Facility was constructed on campus, which is expected to contribute to an additional 17% increase in energy savings for the university.
