SUMMARY:Policy politics in an age of megaprojects
Seminar Series: John Woodside
DESCRIPTION:As the federal government sets out to build billions of dollars worth of new infrastructure, opportunities to decarbonize the Canadian economy exist but are not being seized. Climate solutions are popular, affordable, technologically possible and are essential to avert catastrophic planetary warming, yet what we see in development include false solutions, fossil fuel expansionism and environmental rollbacks. Recognizing policies are shaped by political pressure, the task at hand for the climate concerned is to rebuild political leverage. This talk asks what barriers and opportunities exist to advance solutions we know are needed.

About the speaker: John Woodside is an award winning journalist and works as the Parliamentary Bureau Chief with Canada’s National Observer. He was named to Canada Clean50's in 2023 for his reporting on the climate and related issues.
