id=\"purpose\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Purpose<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Teaching Awards are intended to enhance the teaching of their recipients and the quality of instruction at Carleton University.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"><br>\n<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"funding-options\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Funding Options<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">Five $15,000 awards are available. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Recipients can choose to accept this award as:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">A grant upon the university being satisfied that the normal rules and requirements pertaining to approval of a research proposal have been satisfied; or<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">A $5,000 bonus, which will be taxed as salary income, &amp; a $10,000 research grant payable upon the university being satisfied that the normal rules and requirements pertaining to approval of a research proposal have been satisfied; or<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A portion of the award equal to the appropriate stipend may be used to purchase up to one (1) credit teaching release.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Expenditures from a Teaching Award set up as a research grant may be used for the purposes of enhancing academic activities (teaching) in addition to any research-related activities. If the recipient chooses this award as a research grant, it will operate as a regular research account. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"eligibility\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">This award is available to all Faculty Members and Faculty Members, Teaching Stream. Chairs of Departments and Directors of Institutes and Centres are members of the CUASA Bargaining Unit and, therefore, eligible to apply. Directors of Schools and Colleges are ineligible to apply.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Award recipients are allowed to apply for an award in the fall term of the seventh year following the year that they received the last award.<strong> For example, if you received an award on May 1, 2018 or earlier, you would be eligible to apply for another Teaching Achievement Award in the fall term of 2025.<\/strong><\/span><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Employees shall only be eligible to receive both a Professional Achievement Award and a Teaching Award where the basis cited for each award is separate and distinct.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"application-process\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Candidates shall apply directly for the award. Candidates must\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">submit an <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/teachingawards\/internal-awards\/application-form\/\">application form<\/a>\u202fand a proposal online by <strong>October 31 at midnight<\/strong><\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. Applications <strong>cannot exceed 10 pages<\/strong> (excluding the online application form).<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">A joint application may exceed the page limit, within reason, to include the required information from both applicants, as applicable, i.e., evidence of teaching excellence.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"what-to-include-in-your-application\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to Include in Your Application<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Statement of teaching philosophy that is informed by educational research and reflects upon the evolution of teaching practice.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A budget outlining how the award will be spent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Detailed description of your teaching development project, including i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ts innovation and i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ts general contribution to teaching in your discipline.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">How the award will contribute to your teaching.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Any other supporting information you wish to provide. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"selection-process\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Selection Process<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Recipients are selected by a committee chaired by the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) or their designate, and composed of a faculty member who has earned distinction but is not a candidate for the award, from each of the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Engineering, Science, Public &amp; Global Affairs, and Sprott School of Business. Previous winners of the award will be considered as the principal source of potential members for the committee.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Recommendations will be made to the President and Vice-Chancellor by January 20.
