{"id":74,"date":"2012-10-17T10:37:36","date_gmt":"2012-10-17T14:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/technicalservices\/?page_id=74"},"modified":"2020-10-21T15:35:10","modified_gmt":"2020-10-21T19:35:10","slug":"faqs-for-current-clients","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/technicalservices\/faqs-for-current-clients\/","title":{"rendered":"FAQs for Current Clients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CSS Technical Services is committed to providing ongoing support to current\u00a0Card Access system\u00a0clients in Departments at Carleton University.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few of the most common questions that clients have about AdminWeb (for Card Access administrators only)<\/p>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-what-is-a-double-swipe-lock-unlock\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-what-is-a-double-swipe-lock-unlock\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">What is a double-swipe lock\/unlock?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-what-is-a-double-swipe-lock-unlock\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>With most Card Access systems, the double-swipe lock\/unlock function will permit a pre-authorized user to override the system\u2019s lock schedule and either lock\/unlock the door when it\u2019s scheduled in the system to be un\/locked. For example, a location is on schedule to lock at 16:00, but the Department may need to close early; so they can double-swipe to lock the door at 15:30 instead. Please note that not all locations will have authorized users to perform this funtion.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-can-we-grant-access-to-students-based-on-course-registration\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-can-we-grant-access-to-students-based-on-course-registration\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Can we grant access to students based on course registration?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-can-we-grant-access-to-students-based-on-course-registration\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>Yes, if a Department supplies the course numbers associated with their location the system can be auto-programmed to allow access to students registered in the courses for the current term. If this is the case, the Department\u2019s Card Access system administrator will just need to set the day\/time allowances.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-what-is-a-patron-group\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-what-is-a-patron-group\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">What is a Patron Group?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-what-is-a-patron-group\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>A Patron Group is a collection of individuals with the same access needs. Patron groups are created to assist the Department in managing access to location. For example a patron group called STAFF can have access rights different than the group called STUDENT.<\/p>\n<p>Organizing Patrons with similar criteria into Patron Groups helps ease the administration required of the Card Access system. Adding a Patron to a Patron Group instantly enables the Patron to access the locations configured for that group. Likewise, deleting a Patron from a Patron Group removes the Patron\u2019s corresponding access privileges immediately.<\/p>\n<p>Administrators can also add a patron to multiple Patron Groups.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-what-is-a-location-group\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-what-is-a-location-group\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">What is a Location Group?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-what-is-a-location-group\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>A Location Group is a collection of Locations with similar characteristics. Location groups can be set by building, by hardware type, or by administrator. A newly installed Location can be added to an existing Location Group and all assigned Patron Groups will automatically be able to access it. And vice versa, remove a Location from the Location Group, and access will be automatically denied.<\/p>\n<p>Department Card Access system administrators do not have permissions to create and\/or modify Location Groups. These must be set by CSS.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-what-is-a-door-lock-schedule\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-what-is-a-door-lock-schedule\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">What is a Door Lock schedule?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-what-is-a-door-lock-schedule\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>Locations with a Card Access system can be locked or unlocked on an automated schedule. Multiple schedules can be applied to a single location or to a group of locations. For example, a location can be scheduled to be unlocked from Monday to Friday between 8:00 and 16:00; on Saturday unlocked between 11:00 and 16:00; and on Sundays remain locked 24 hrs.<\/p>\n<p>Department Card Access system administrators do not have permissions to set door lock schedules. These must be set by CSS in order to ensure that they align with building specific access times as these vary across campus; and may require additional patrolling.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-what-is-a-patron-schedule\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-what-is-a-patron-schedule\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">What is a Patron schedule?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-what-is-a-patron-schedule\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>Patrons can be allowed to enter a Card Access location on a programmed schedule. For example, staff can have access to a location 24\/7; but students only have access between 8:00 and 16:00.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-what-is-an-access-assignment\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-what-is-an-access-assignment\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">What is an Access assignment?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-what-is-an-access-assignment\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>Access assignments can be used for both Patrons and Patron Groups and include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Access Schedule &#8211; Reflects the days and times that this Patron can commonly access the location<\/li>\n<li>Holiday Schedule &#8211; Reflects the days and times that this Patron can access the location during a designated calendar holiday<\/li>\n<li>Calendar &#8211; Reflects the periods designated as holidays throughout this schedule<\/li>\n<li>Effective date and time to receive access &#8211; Reflects the start day and time that this Patron can commonly access the location<\/li>\n<li>Expiration date and time of access &#8211; Reflects the end day and time that this Patron can no longer access the location<\/li>\n<li>Unlock privilege \u2013 identifies is the Patron can use the double-swipe to unlock the entry point so it stays unlocked<\/li>\n<li>Strike Time interval, in seconds, the entry point stays unlocked for a Patron \u2013 normally 8 seconds, but can be extended for users that require more time to get into and out of the location.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<p><strong>For AdminWeb administrator &#8220;How To&#8217;s&#8221; please refer to the AdminWeb User Guide provided during training.\u00a0 For all other questions, please contact <a href=\"m&#97;&#x69;&#x6c;t&#111;&#58;&#x63;&#x73;s&#46;&#116;&#x65;&#x63;h&#110;&#x69;&#x63;&#x61;l&#46;&#x73;&#x65;r&#118;&#105;&#x63;&#x65;s&#64;&#99;&#x61;&#x72;l&#101;&#x74;&#x6f;&#x6e;&#46;&#99;&#x61;\">CSS Tech Services<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CSS Technical Services is committed to providing ongoing support to current\u00a0Card Access system\u00a0clients in Departments at Carleton University.
