On September 23, over 100 students came out to the Discovery Centre to hear about possibilities of co-op and job employment from a team of 15 IBM employees that included a Carleton alumnus.

“IBM was impressed with the Discovery Centre and they were excited to host their recruitment presentation and networking event for student,” said Lorraine Anderson from Co-op and Career Services.

“Since the space was multi-functional with furniture being easily moveable it provided the flexibility for IBM to do a presentation and a networking session during the second half of the event.”

The unique space of the Discovery Centre allowed for a completely different recruitment experience for students, staff and recruiters.

“This would not have been achievable in a regular classroom setting where we usually do employer recruitment sessions,” said Anderson. “Having technology available right in the Centre was very convenient and being able to place it anywhere is the room since it was moveable made setting up the space very easy.”

The Discovery Centre will continue to work with Co-op and Career Services to utilize the space for employment events to bring students and employers together to network and discuss career opportunities.

web-DSCF4591Blackberry is scheduled for October 8 to use the Discovery Centre for their recruitment presentation and networking event with students.

“We are excited to have them on campus and to use the Discovery Centre,” said Anderson.
