Provincial Awards

OCUFA Teaching Award and Librarians Award

Approximately seven awards are presented annually to outstanding teachers and librarians in Ontario. In the context of the OCUFA awards, teaching embraces virtually all levels of instruction and proficiency in teaching may extend well beyond the classroom. Activities such as course design, curriculum development, organization of teaching programs and other significant forms of leadership are all important contributions to the instructional process.

National Awards

3M National Teaching Fellowship

The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) and 3M Canada have partnered to recognize exceptional contributions to teaching and learning at Canadian universities. The community of 3M National Teaching Fellows embodies the highest ideals of teaching excellence and scholarship with a commitment to encourage and support the educational experience of every learner. Up to ten Fellowships are selected annually.

D2L Innovation Award in Teaching and Learning

STLHE and Brightspace (formerly Desire2Learn) have partnered to create this award, which celebrates and recognizes collaborative teams for their innovative approaches that promote student-centred learning at post-secondary institutions, both nationally and internationally. Winners will receive up to $3,000 toward travel and registration costs to attend the annual STLHE conference, and each member of the team will receive a certificate. As many as five awards are presented annually.

Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award

This STLHE award honours individuals who have, over their career, made significant contributions to teaching, learning and educational development in Canadian higher education. Nominees are normally members of STLHE, and service to the society will be an important factor considered by the selection committee. The recipient is invited to attend the STLHE conference, with travel expenses paid, and to make a special presentation. The awardee is also presented with a citation and small gift and becomes a lifetime member of STLHE.
