About

In response to planning for the Winter 2022 academic term, and to continue encouraging innovative approaches with a focus on improving student learning, Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) is pleased to offer the HyFlex Development Initiative.

The goal of the initiative is to help support faculty members, instructors and contract instructors who are preparing to teach in this new modality in winter 2022. The initiative will allow instructors to engage in pedagogical innovations and provide high-quality learning experiences for Carleton’s students.

For the purposes of this initiative, HyFlex instruction is understood as a synchronous mode of teaching that includes two learning spaces, one physical space in the classroom and the other via virtual/distance learning, where students can choose day to day how they will attend each class, either in person on campus or online via Zoom.

 Eligibility

Faculty members, instructors and contract instructors who are listed as teaching HyFlex courses in the Winter 2022 timetable (Carleton Central) are eligible.

Applications submitted by instructors who are not formally recognized in the timetable (Carleton Central) as teaching in a HyFlex delivery mode, but plan to integrate a HyFlex component in one or more of their future courses, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Award

Up to $5,000 per instructor will be awarded for the development of courses and teaching activities suitable to HyFlex delivery. In addition to a monetary award, fund recipients are encouraged to consult with TLS for support if needed.

Funding

Funds will be transferred to the successful applicants’ PER funds.
