Community Engaged Pedagogy Community of Practice (Inaugural Meeting)

April 17, 2023 at 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM

Location:481 MacOdrum Library
Cost:Free

This newly established community of practice provides a space for faculty, both those new to and those familiar with community engaged pedagogy (CEP) to share ideas, approaches, and experiences; discuss ways the university can improve the delivery of community-oriented teaching and learning activities; mentor other faculty interested in incorporating collaborative community-based projects into their courses; brainstorm and pilot new directions in community outreach; and share opportunities.

This first meeting will be an open forum where everyone can express their ideas on the future direction of CEP at Carleton.  What topics about community engaged learning do you wish to explore in future meetings? What are the benefits of community engagement? How might community projects fit into my course? What types of community-based projects do other instructors incorporate into their courses now? What supports are available for community-based projects? And so on.

We will also have an open discussion about practical concerns about the community of practice, such as how often we will meet and how we will proceed, and establish the way forward for the group. Come to the meeting with some possible CEP-related topics you would like to see discussed at future gatherings. This will be very much an open forum for frank discussion about community engagement from an instructor perspective.

This first meeting will take place in person. Future meetings could be online, in person, or hybrid, depending on the group’s preference.

Space is limited. Please register in advance by filling out the form below.
