Creating Student Engagement with Online Quizzing

August 19, 2022 at 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

Online quizzing can be an effective and motivating tool for students to review and reflect on learning and self-check their progress. Come and join the discussion for strategies and options for creating online quizzes. Upon completing this session, you will be able to:

  • Create banks of questions for quizzes to promote academic integrity
  • Shuffle quiz answers on multiple choice questions
  • Limit the number of questions that appear on each screen to 1 or 2 to reduce cognitive load
  • Limit time and access to quizzes to promote academic integrity
  • Use delayed feedback so that students can see the score they have achieved only after the test is over for everybody in the class
  • Use quizzes as diagnostic assessment or as an orientation activity (the syllabus quiz)
  • Make smaller frequent, formative assessments
  • Set user overrides on quizzes to provide accommodations
  • Drop the lowest quiz grade for equity and ease of course administration
  • Bonus-Get students to create their own quiz questions!

Participants will need to be familiar with basic quiz setup. Resources can be found here: This session will be hosted in Zoom and recorded to provide asynchronous access for those who cannot attend the scheduled date.

Space is limited. Please register in advance by filling out the form below.
