August 19, 2022 at 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Cost: | Free |
Online quizzing can be an effective and motivating tool for students to review and reflect on learning and self-check their progress. Come and join the discussion for strategies and options for creating online quizzes. Upon completing this session, you will be able to:
- Create banks of questions for quizzes to promote academic integrity
- Shuffle quiz answers on multiple choice questions
- Limit the number of questions that appear on each screen to 1 or 2 to reduce cognitive load
- Limit time and access to quizzes to promote academic integrity
- Use delayed feedback so that students can see the score they have achieved only after the test is over for everybody in the class
- Use quizzes as diagnostic assessment or as an orientation activity (the syllabus quiz)
- Make smaller frequent, formative assessments
- Set user overrides on quizzes to provide accommodations
- Drop the lowest quiz grade for equity and ease of course administration
- Bonus-Get students to create their own quiz questions!
Participants will need to be familiar with basic quiz setup. Resources can be found here: https://carleton.ca/brightspace/instructors/creating-quizzes/
