Trauma and Violence-informed Workshop

September 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

Location:481 MacOdrum Library
Cost:Free

Returning to on-campus learning following the pandemic has highlighted the important prevalence of traumatic life experiences and their impacts on student learning. In this workshop, we will define trauma, explore the effects of trauma on brain and mental health, discuss ways of responding to trauma in our classrooms that embrace trauma and violence-informed pedagogies, and apply the knowledge gained during the workshop to scenarios of student trauma. At the end of the session, we will discuss key takeaways to be explored in becoming trauma-informed members of educational institutions.

This workshop is intended for Carleton University faculty who are interested in designing teaching and learning experiences that are based on trauma-informed principles; it is not intended as a source of professional development for mental health professionals. As such, faculty are invited to attend as content is based on educational development principles.

Space is limited. Please register in advance by filling out the form below.
