Ways to Create Engaging Zoom Class Sessions Your Students Won’t Want to Miss!

Student engagement continues to be a primary concern when using the cloud-based web conferencing tool Zoom to host an online class session. Student’s abruptly leaving a class session, lack of participation and attendance are all signs of disengaging Zoom class sessions. Engagement opportunities for students are important as they enhance deeper learning and understanding of class topics and increase overall student experience in an online environment.This workshop is designed to focus on five topics to enhance engagement in your synchronous online class sessions in Zoom. We will focus on the “pedagogy behind the buttons” in Zoom and structure the workshop around five strategies to promote engagement and link each strategy to the settings/tools available in Zoom. Please ensure that you have at least Zoom Version: 5.11.1 (8356) installed before attending this workshop to get the best experience.By the end of this session, you’ll be ready to:
- Create and facilitate active learning strategies in class sessions using Zoom’s collaborative features (breakout rooms, reactions, whiteboard, etc.).
- Promote engaging and deeper class discussions amongst your students in Zoom.
- Design effective feedback opportunities using features in Zoom for students to communicate with their instructor.
- Safeguard your meetings from unwanted/disruptive participants.
NOTE: This session will be hosted in Zoom and recorded to provide asynchronous access for those who cannot attend the scheduled date.
