Additionally, they allow us to reach out to and actively engage course participants, and to frequently gauge students\u2019 progress.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In this online session, we will showcase several \u201cbest-selling\u201d engagement and communication online activities, which have been successfully incorporated into many Carleton courses in previous years, and we will focus on the <i>pedagogical principles<\/i>\u00a0behind them, rather than technical solutions. The activities we will discuss include:<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Weekly Announcements<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Ask the Instructor forum<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Introductory course activities<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Synchronous online meetings and engagement<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Discussion forums<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Student feedback<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Weekly learning responses<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Quizzes for learning<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cPath to success\u201d in your course<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">If you complete this workshop, you should be able to:<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Recall several questions to consider when planning communication activities during the course design phase<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Explain why communication is an essential element of teaching and engagement<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Implement strategies to engage and communicate with students online<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><b><i><span lang=\"EN-US\">This is part of\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/tls\/events-and-programs\/programs\/course-design-fundamentals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"1\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><i>Course Design Fundamentals<\/i><\/span><\/a><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><i>,\u00a0<b>offered by TLS.
