Scott Bucking is one of the 2017 recipients of the New Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award<\/a>, given to those who accentuate Carleton University\u2019s commitment to teaching excellence and innovation.<\/p>\n

As a cross-appointed professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism, Scott spends his time at Carleton working with and teaching about building information modelling. He says he teaches each course with a different approach.<\/p>\n

He uses problem-based learning in his graduate class to improve student learning and information retention, and in his larger classes, he engages students by using peer and active learning methods to encourage student discussion within the classroom. For his fourth year capstone project in engineering, Scott uses experiential learning methods, which have created an exceptionally engaged group of students.<\/p>\n
