P<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW260037392 BCX0\">articipants will learn about and <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW260037392 BCX0\">gain hands-on experience with <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW260037392 BCX0\">a<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW260037392 BCX0\"> range of teaching and assessment methods and<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW260037392 BCX0\">\u00a0teaching techniques for <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW260037392 BCX0\">manag<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW260037392 BCX0\">ing<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW260037392 BCX0\"> large and small classes, and <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW260037392 BCX0\">will explore approaches <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW260037392 BCX0\">to address teaching and learning issues particular to their disciplines.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW260037392 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Although informed by theory, the focus will be on teaching practice. Participants will develop new course materials and try out various teaching approaches within a supportive peer cohort.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Please note:<\/em><\/strong><em> Participation in the certificate is ineligible for <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/deputyprovost\/faculty-affairs\/teaching-assistants\/\">paid pedagogical training<\/a> for TAs.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Future and Current Cohorts<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Upcoming: Fall 2026 \/ Winter 2027<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Information regarding cohort(s) for the 2026-2027 academic year will be made available on this webpage in Summer 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Current: Winter 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Schedule:\n<ul>\n<li>Weeks 1-8 and 10<strong>: Wednesdays 1 &#8211; 4 p.m. from January 14 until March 25<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Week 9 (microteaching): <strong>week of March 16 &#8211; 20<\/strong> (day\/time TBD)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Modality: In-Person<\/li>\n<li>Applications Open: October 16, 2025<\/li>\n<li>Applications Close: December 15, 2025<\/li>\n<li>Decisions communicated no later than: December 19, 2025<\/li>\n<li>Brightspace page &amp; communications launch for the program: 1 week prior to start of course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>*NOTE: registration in PTT requires a $50 cash deposit, which is returned in full upon successful completion of the program.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#A\">See below to apply for an upcoming cohort.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Program Learning Outcomes<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>By the end of this program, you will be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design a syllabus for a course in your discipline that exemplifies the principles of constructive alignment<\/li>\n<li>Construct a lesson plan and deliver a teaching demonstration (microteach) that implements learner-centred approaches<\/li>\n<li>Articulate a personal philosophy of teaching that adheres to the features characteristic of a \u201cteaching philosophy statement\u201d and which is informed by educational theory<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Program Requirements<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>To earn the certificate, participants are expected to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Actively participate in all* sessions<\/li>\n<li>Provide constructive feedback to peers<\/li>\n<li>Complete the required readings and other assigned media sources between sessions<\/li>\n<li>Prepare and submit three assignments by the indicated due dates\n<ul>\n<li>Assignment 1: Teaching Philosophy Statement<\/li>\n<li>Assignment 2: Microteaching Demonstration &amp; Microteaching Reflection<\/li>\n<li>Assignment 3: Annotated Course Syllabus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>*Please note:<\/strong> This program is based on a high degree of interactive learning; absences from class meetings will affect your ability to contribute to forthcoming sessions. For this reason, only one absence during the 10-week period is allowed.
